You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle these three things:
a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

Update

As of tonight Colin is much better and his foot is fine. Julia does a good impression of her Uncle Colin walking around after the whole ordeal.

And that's what memories are made of...

A family favorite quote from my Auntie Kate. You'll find this attached to the end of many conversations that entailed a member of the younger generation griping and whining about having to do something not so fun. Which brings me to Friday night. Not that there was whining and griping but we did make a memory.

Joe, Julia, and I went over to Auntie Kate's to hang out after work. Colin was there and because we never get to see him (and Joe won at poker the night before) we decided to go out for dinner. Off to Chili's we went. Pulling into the parking lot there were mad cars so I offered to go in and put our name in. Below is the seating arrangement in the car.I got out of the car and started rushing to the door. I had seen another car pull in and I was determined to beat them to the hostess stand. But then I heard yelling. Colin was outside the car and screaming. Not like a girly scream as you would think from our youngest cousin. Big manly scream and he was waving his hands in the air. (remember that part about the hands for later in the story)

Notice from where A.K. was in the car she hadn't noticed Colin slip out of the car. As I turned I saw Colin standing there, the back up lights go on. She was backing up to park the car. Then she started to back the car up over his foot. Colin and I started yelling and she moved off his foot (still going backwards). Then she freaked because she realized what happened and put the car in drive and rolled back over his foot.

At this point the hostess had come out and asked if we wanted ice. We were contemplating going to the hospital. Colin had hobbled to the curb and said he was fine he just got a little scared. A few minutes pass and the foot starts to swell but he can move so nothing is broken. I run inside and the hostess goes to get the ice. By then we (including Colin) were starting to think the situation was sort of comical. 3-4 girls came to talk to me while I was waiting for the ice. They had seen the whole thing...is he alright?...OMG we can't believe it. These girls were falling all over Colin.

I bring the ice to Colin and he is limping around and decides he is ok to go eat and no medical attention was needed. So I guess it was a good thing that I put our name on the list while I was waiting for the ice. At the time I thought maybe it was a little inappropriate but the hostess assured me it wasn't.

Now we are inside and we are talking with 2 of the girls that had seen the whole thing unfold. I know this sounds obsessive but we each started going over our own version of the story. Then one of the girls said "and then when your mom got off your foot and you started crying..." Colin cuts her off and says "Hey I was NOT crying". Then the other girl chimes in and says "...and when you were waving your hands and looking up at the sky saying God, why me..." We all are hysterical at this point because Colin cuts the other girl off and says "no I didn't say that, I was yelling at her to get off my foot." He was so cute. Determined to prove that he was a big tough guy in front of these girls. Well he was. I mean I've never gotten my foot run over by A.K. so I don't know. But she did threaten my appendages when I was of impressionable age.

We literally laughed all night about this. I know, you're horrified. How could be be so insensitive? But as A.K. says

That's what memories are made of...

Memorial Day Weekend

This is a picture taken earlier in the week. We were at my cousin Pam's house and Lilly showed Julia how to hang upside down on the ab roller exercise thingie.

Friday
Joe and I had a wedding rehearsal at church. After, we met up with my mom, dad, Julia, Kara and Rob to celebrate Kara's birthday. Below is Julia toasting a marshmallow. Notice how far away Julia is standing from the fire. I guess she is still scarred from the incident with Joe's birthday candles.
Julia tasting her "chocolate sandwich" as she called it.
Julia and Kara when we sang Happy Birthday. Don't worry no candles this time!
Rob was so cute. He planned this whole party for Kara. Calling with the invites (Kara just wanted something small so don't be offended that you weren't called), dinner, dessert. Rob decorated and even had gifts for the guests to take home. Little containers with different kinds of candy. He made a special one for my dad with sugar free candy in it.

Saturday
I had to work for a few hours but I was out by 12:30. The three of us went over Joe's parent's house because Mema and Papa had a surprise. A car for Julia! She was so excited. She drove from Mema and Papa's to Grand Mema's (of course she stopped to pick some flowers along the way). It only took her a few minutes to get the hang of turning and backing up.
Next the three of us went to Burger King for dinner. Julia wanted to leave with a crown for everyone she knew.
(you can thank me later)

Sunday
We went to a picnic at my aunt and uncle's new house. Here is my mom, Joe, and Julia.
Scottlynn crawling
Lacey, Lilly, Scottlynn, and Julia
Gram and all the great grand kids (except Lacey....was a little pissed she kept getting in for the picture but I didn't want to be mean)
We left the party after a few hours and had to go to the emergency room. Julia had been complaining about some pain she was having. She was beside herself at one point. So we went to the ER because our doctor wasn't going to be in until monday afternoon and I didn't want the poor kid to go that long. She is now on antibiotics. (which I had to get at Walgreens because CVS was closed) I know how embarrassing. She was a trooper. Julia never goes to the doctor or the hospital and when she does she is scared and screaming and crying the whole time. This time she was calm and giggling and thought it was hysterical that she had to pee in cup.

Monday
Today I had to work again but Julia and her Daddy had a low key day. They went out for breakfast together. Julia took a bath and got all cleaned up. Shortly after Joe sent me this video at work. Julia decided she wanted to be pink so she colored herself with markers. Not much else to report.

We hope your weekend was just as fun and relaxing.

It's been so long

I feel like it's been forever since I've posted. Saturday we went to my niece Katie's christening. Here is a picture of her with her brother and sister. I've also put up some random pictures that were taken throughout the day.

Sunday was mother's day and it was a wonderful relaxing day. Joe, Julia, and I went to my mom's for breakfast. Kara and Rob were there and we spent the time picking a vacation destination for the summer. At one point Julia wanted to go outside and I happened to have her bike in my truck. Most of you know that at my mom's house she doesn't really have a driveway but she does have a huge parking lot next door. So another redneck moment...picture 3 adults in lawn chairs, in the middle of a parking lot, with a 4 year old riding circles around them. My car doors open pumping Hannah Montana music, Joe and Rob in Kara's car playing playstation. But regardless it was fun to spend time together.

At about 2:00 Joe, Julia, and my mom went to Kara and Rob's house. I went home and took a nap. MMMMMmmmmm. It was nice.

Then at about 6:00 Joe, Julia, and I went to Joe's parents house for dinner. Baked stuffed shrimp and steak. (Yummy!) For dessert, strawberry shortcake, another favorite. Thanks Auntie May. Then it was home to crash in front of the tv for the finale of survivor.

I love this picture below. It's perfect for mother's day. Without my mom I wouldn't be here and without Julia I wouldn't be a mom. Just a reminder of how lucky I am.

So that's my story. Not much else to report. Worked Monday and Tuesday. Spent today with my friend Christin and her 2 week old Alyssa. Alyssa is so sweet and just nuzzled into my neck.

Other than going to the doctor today, my day was good. I'm about to find out who is kicked off idol so I am signing off. I heart David Cook (and yes I sent text messages with the word "vote" to 5703 twenty times last night!)

My silly nephew

I'm to tired to post about our day today. I think I pushed my limits. I just wanted to share this video of my nephew. He is such a ham.

Hope everyone has a happy mother's day! Check back tomorrow night for pictures of the weekend.

Busy Day

School Concert
Today Julia had a concert at school. I was very excited because I could actually go see her sing with her class. Usually I have to work. I had a really great video of Julia singing and dancing. It was so cute! So guess what...I deleted it. I hit the wrong button on my camera. Yup it's deleted. I'm so mad. Oh well I have a couple pictures. None of her singing because that's what the video was.

This is Julia and her friend William
And this is my daughter acting like the little lady that she is.

This is a video of some of the older kids. I don't normally take pictures or video of kids I don't know but I couldn't resist. The energy and the charisma made me want to get up and dance. I didn't of course because that would have been embarrassing.
When the concert was over we went to Julia's classroom to get her things and she gave me this for mother's day. She painted the pot and planted the flower. The card is a butterfly and she wrote "to mommy, I love you love, Julia.

Golf Tournament

After the concert Julia and I rushed out to Farmington to the golf course. Joe's cousin died in a car accident a little less than 3 years ago. This is the second golf tournament in Glenn's honor. A chance for family and friends to get together share memories and raise some money for the little girls he left behind.

Mike, Lisa, Uncle Glenn, Aunt Pat, and Gina
(Glenn's parents and siblings)

Sammy, Gina's son. I could just eat him up!

Free massages for everyone!

Sydney, Julia, and Riley keeping busy with crafts.

And last...Sammy, Sydney, and Julia the few minutes they actually stood still. It was a busy day and the Lauritos are tired so I'm signing off.
